Steel Pulse.

Get a jump start on summer vibes this Memorial Day weekend with the launch of Grand Sierra Resortโ€™s Friday Night Reggae series. British reggae pioneers Steel Pulse will open up the series with their signature fusion of roots reggae, jazz and R&B. Known for their messages of unity, justice and resilience, the band gained worldwide recognition with their debut album Handsworth Revolution (1978), featuring songs including โ€œKu Klux Klanโ€ and โ€œProdigal Son.โ€ Over their 50-year career, the group has earned multiple Grammy nominations, including an award for their 1986 album Babylon the Bandit. Their latest release is Mass Manipulation. The show starts at 8 p.m., Friday, May 23, at the The Pool at Grand Sierra Resort, 2500 E. Second St. Tickets are $25. The event features a rib cook-off competition, food vendors, arts and craft vendors, a beer garden and live music with performances by Deception, New Wave Crave, Kerina Kinch, Cruz Control featuring Whitney Myer and others. Prepare to have your eyes, ears and mind blown at the opening reception of inauditx (unheard), curated by Las Vegas multidisciplinary artist Isaac Quezada this week at The Holland Project. This presentation will be the second iteration of the project INAUDITX, which was originally presented as a one-day pop-up by Scrambled Eggs Collective in Las Vegas. Eighteen artists from diverse mediums and backgrounds came together to create collaborative works that explore and experiment within the genre of noise music. The exhibition in Reno will include three of the original collaborations, in addition to two new sculptures/installations/sound works by Reno-based artists. Local and touring experimental noise musicians Nabiya, @LARGE, M0N1K3R, Pig Heart Transplant and Las Vegas band Spring Breeding will perform at the reception, which starts at 7 p.m., Friday, May 23, in the HP Gallery. Admission is $5 or pay-what-you-can donation. inauditx(unheard) will be on view through June 28 in the HP Gallery. Make sure to also check out the opening reception of Copper Ouroboros, a two-day pop-up exhibition by Ohio artist Christopher Lynn. Lynnโ€™s show, which includes video, sculpture, painting and sound, reflects on themes of labor and a troubling legacy of mining and capitalism. Copper Ouroboros will be on view in the Serva Pool space at HP in conjunction with the reception for inauditx (unheard) on Friday, and again from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, May 24, during the Mini-Mart event at Laika Press and The Holland Project, 136-140 Vesta St. For more details, visit hollandreno.org.

Learn about the history of the Rail City with a guided walking tour of Victorian Square and downtown Sparks. Tour guide Scott Carey will take participants to 17 buildings and sites that have played an important role in the history and development of Sparks and Nevada. The program is designed to show how this area has transformed itself over the years from a railroad hub to a successful redevelopment area that has changed the image and future of the city. The tour starts at 9 a.m., Saturday, May 24, in front of the Sparks Heritage Museum, 814 Victorian Ave., Sparks. The cost is $20, or free for Historic Reno Preservation Society members. Sierra Arts will hold artist receptions for two exhibitions in the Riverside and Annex galleries. The Art of Tattooers showcases painting, glasswork, leatherwork and sculpture and other art created by professional tattooers outside of the tattoo studio. When Rock Was Gritty features photography by Robert Post focusing on the Boston and New York punk rock scenes of the late 1970s and early 1980s. Both shows are on view at Sierra Arts through June 6. The Note-Ables.

Pioneer Center Youth Programs presents a performance by The Note-Ables. This professional group of musicians aims to change the face of disability through music. Their program includes live rock music performances, discussions of disability, a Q&A session with the band members and interactive songs. Animal Ark Wildlife Sanctuary kicks off its 2025 Summer Stargazing Series in collaboration with University of Nevada, Renoโ€™s Fleischmann Planetarium. The event will offer an opportunity to explore the night sky in a quiet, natural setting, away from city lights. Astronomers from the planetarium will offer telescope-assisted viewing of constellations, deep sky objects and other celestial phenomena. The ticket includes daytime admission to Animal Ark on the same date. The stargazing events will take place in the amphitheater from 9 to 10:30 p.m., Friday, May 30, June 27, July 25 and Aug. 15 at Animal Ark, 1265 Deerlodge Road, located about 25 miles north of Reno. Admission is $40 for adults and $20 for youth. Attendance is limited to 60 guests per evening, and advance ticket purchase is required. Tickets are available at www.animalark.org.
