On Sunday, Sept. 6, Reno Scout Troop 1847 was in the midst of its third-annual, three-day After Burn—Trash Drop-Off and Gear Fundraiser, in collaboration with Gear Hut, the Kiwanis Bike Program and Burners Without Borders, at the large parking lot at 5205 Mill St.
Burners dropped off bags of trash for a suggested $10 donation. The Scouts and their adult supervisors also collected items including unopened packaged food, bottled water, toiletries, bikes, bedding and reusable camping gear. The troop handles cleaning, sorting and redistributing the goods. The event benefits organizations including the Kiwanis Bike Program, the Hope Community Church food pantry and the Reno Burrito Project.
Julie Tullgren—a Scout mom and one of the event’s primary organizers—said this is the event’s third year. She said the troop is hoping to use some of the proceeds to help another Scout troop that recently lost its equipment in the Hawk Fire.
