Lots of fun events will happen in the state capital this week. First off, there’s the Stewart Indian School Father’s Day Pow Pow. Learn about Northern Nevada’s Native American tribes, and hear the stories of those who attended the Stewart Indian School, at this annual Father’s Day weekend event which features arts and crafts, food vendors and hundreds of costumed dancers accompanied by traditional drummers. Flamy Grant.

While Reno and Carson City’s official Pride parades and parties aren’t until September, several events are taking place in Carson City during national Pride Month. Singer-songwriter and 2025 International Folk Music Awards Artist of the Year nominee Flamy Grant (pictured) will perform on Thursday, June 12. Grant blends folk, gospel and roots music and immerses audiences in a “theatrical, therapeutic and wholly original experience of intrepid storytelling and song, all delivered through the evocative art of drag.” The show starts at 7:30 p.m. at Nashville Social Club, 1105 S. Back to the old haunt

Ghost walking tours are probably not the first thing that come to mind when you’re thinking of summertime activities. But when you live in historical towns like Carson City and Virginia City, ghosts are always in season. The Carson City Ghost Walk kicks off its 32nd season this weekend. Madame Curry (a spirited, fictional character named after the widow of Carson City’s founder, Abe Curry) and her Spirit Wranglers will lead pedestrians through the downtown district’s west-side historic homes and businesses, sharing paranormal stories and gossip from the past. The tour departs at 7 p.m., Saturday, June 14, from McFadden Plaza, at Curry and Third streets in downtown Carson City. Please arrive at least 10 minutes before the walk begins. Other walks will take place on June 28; July 12, 19, 26; and Aug. 9, 16, 23. The tours will continue through September and culminate with the all-day October Ghost Walk on Oct. 25. While some of us may have felt a bit of anxiety turning 40, for one local museum, it’s a cause for celebration. The Sparks Museum and Cultural Center (formerly the Sparks Heritage Museum) will hold its 40th anniversary celebration and fundraiser featuring self-guided museum tours, antique police and fire vehicle displays, a grand door prize, raffles, keynote speaker Michael Fischer as Gov. John Sparks (the 10th governor of Nevada and the city’s namesake), and classic rock and modern pop tunes by White Water at Great Basin Brewing Company’s outdoor stage. The free event takes place from 3 to 9 p.m.. Saturday, June 14, at the Sparks Museum & Cultural Center, 814-820 Victorian Ave., in downtown Sparks. Hot off the grill

Bring your appetite (and some hand wipes) as you dig into some lip-smacking barbecue delights while washing it down with some ice-cold beer at the 28th annual BBQ, Brews & Blues. Choose from St. Louis-style barbecue ribs, smoked beef brisket, pulled pork and all the fixins, as well as a wide selection of brews and beverages from more than 50 microbreweries. There will also be arts and crafts vendors, food vendors and rock and blues acts on two stages performing from 2:30 to 10 p.m., Friday, June 13; and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday, June 14, outside the Eldorado, Silver Legacy and Circus Circus resort casinos on North Virginia Street in downtown Reno. Headliners Shane Dwight and Earth Gang close out the evening’s entertainment starting at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Yacht Rock Revue will hit the stage at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, followed by Vertical Horizon (pictured) at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday. Festival admission is free. Join volunteers from the Lahontan Audubon Society and the Help Save the Bees Foundation as they show visitors around the Valley Wood Park Wildlife Gardens in northwest Reno, which features eight themed gardens. Learn about native plants, herbs and pollinators, and see the new pathways and plants that volunteers put in just last weekend. Galena Campfire Programs return for another season of outdoors fun under the stars. The series kicks off with a summer program talk by the Great Basin Institute and a performance by the Jazz Dixie Review on Friday, June 20. Other events include “Songs and Stories of the High Sierra” with Tom Schemenauer on June 27, and bluegrass music by Sage Creek on July 11. Bring low-back chairs or blankets, bug spray and flashlights to make your visit more comfortable.
