On Saturday, June 27, during the “Celebrate Sparks” event, the Glendale School—the one-room schoolhouse located at 905 Victorian Ave.—was open for tours.

Built in 1864 and closed in 1958, it is the oldest schoolhouse still standing in the state. “It’s a great piece of Nevada history. I wish that more people would come and see it,” said Dianne Lawson (wife of Sparks Mayor Ed Lawson). “The Sparks Heritage Museum has done a wonderful job with their stewardship of the school. It’s very well maintained, and there is a wealth of historical information in the schoolhouse.”
