Nevada Space Center, which shares Nevada’s role in American space exploration, is presenting Science Saturday: Eating in Space from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Nov. 13 at the National Automobile Museum, 10 S. Lake St.

The event, designed for third through sixth graders (but good for all ages), covers growing food in space, life support systems, sampling space treats and building a miniature hydroponics system with seeds flown in space.

Food Bank distributes Thanksgiving meals to families


Families must register here in advance to pick up Thanksgiving meal kits (one per family) being distributed by the Food Bank of Northern Nevada from 9 a.m. to noon Nov. 20 at Reno Livestock Events Center or Atlantis Casino Resort Spa. Registration includes selection of pick-up location.

Meal kits consist of roasting chicken, turkey stuffing mix, boxed mashed potatoes and macaroni and cheese, canned yams, canned cranberries, cut green beans, cream of mushroom soup, vegetable soup, fried onions, pumpkin pie, cranberry-apple juice, a half-gallon of milk and a bag of apples.

How to bake and decorate splendiferous holiday cookies

From 6 to 8 p.m. Dec. 1, Truckee Meadows Community College EPIC department is offering its hands-on Holiday Cookie Decorating class, with instruction on airbrushing, stencils, fondant, molds and decorative packaging. Class also includes take-home box of treats.

Supper club: Ferino Distillery meets Cherry Bomb Catering

From 6 to 9 p.m. Dec. 13 at Ferino Distillery, 541 E. Fourth St., Hungry in Reno is presenting its Hungry Supper Club, featuring a four-course holiday dinner with cocktails or wine. The meal is being prepared by Cherry Bomb Catering.

Net proceeds of each ticket will be donated to a choice of charity: Eddy House, Reno Rodeo Foundation or STEP2. Tickets: $200 individual, $350 for two. Purchase/details.

Atlantis Steakhouse presents holiday Champagne dinner


Beginning 6 p.m. Dec. 14, Atlantis Steakhouse in the Atlantis Casino Resort Spa, 3800 S. Virginia St., is hosting a dinner showcasing pours from the House of G.H. Mumm Champagne. The house, founded in 1827, is known for its fresh style and lively column of bubbles rising in the flute.
