Gift-givers with avid readers on their Christmas lists will have a variety of local books to choose from – and authors to meet – Nov. 6 at the National Automobile Museum in downtown Reno.
The National Automobile Museum, 10 South Lake St. in Reno, is hosting an autograph session with five local authors from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6. The writers autographing their newest books, as well as some of their previous works, and chatting with attendees.
Entry into the museum lobby is free of charge. The authors will sign books that are purchased at the event, but also enjoy affixing their monikers on books that fans bring to the event. Books will be available for sale in the museum store, and anyone who purchases a book will receive a discounted $12 admission to the Auto Museum. (Regular admission is $15 for adults; $13 for Seniors). Sales taxes don’t apply to books purchased at the non-profit museum.
Here’s a look at the authors at the event:
Brian Crane – the Reno creator of the beloved syndicated comic strip, “Pickles.” Brian was once an art director at a Reno advertising agency before he started drawing cartoons. Today, he is a national favorite with readers around the country for his “Pickles” syndicated series. Who doesn’t relate to the daily adventures of Earl and Opal Pickles, a couple married 50 years?
Bill Brown – Bill is a well-known, retired Reno television anchor. He’s also a prolific novelist and filmmaker. He’ll be signing his new horror novels featuring Nevada themes including “Blood Mountain;” “The Alien;” “The Beast;” “Gabriel’s Horn;” “The Ghost Within;” and his latest, “It Waits.”
Janice Oberding – Janice is the “queen” of Nevada stories on ghosts and hauntings. She has written over a dozen books covering the paranormal activates in places such as Tonopah, Highway 50, Lake Tahoe, Virginia City and of course Las Vegas and Reno. She is also the author of several novels, most with Nevada themes.
Mark Curtis, Jr. – Mark spent over three decades as an advertising agency owner and creative director based in Reno, handling a range of clients around the nation. In addition, he was very active in the city’s various art and cultural movements, authoring “Reno: A Fabled City Finds Its Soul.” His most recent work is a compendium of stories about our area by numerous local guest authors entitled: “One Of A Kind.” It makes an excellent coffee table book or a great holiday gift for both long-time locals and new arrivals.
Jack Harpster – Historian Jack Harpster has written a number of books of local interest including biographies of IGT Founder “Si” Redd (“King of Slots”) and Lake Tahoe pioneer Duane Bliss (Lumber Baron of the Comstock Lode”). At this event, Jack will be autographing his fascinating biography of the late, local millionaire LaVere Redfield, one of the city’s true “characters.”
