Our sincere thanks go out to everyone involved in the RN&R’s Art Talks benefit Sept. 23. Your efforts and donations will help keep local journalism alive in Northern Nevada and Lake Tahoe.
The fundraiser took place thanks to Jim House, who so kindly donated his beautiful gardens for the use of the event. Fifteen talented, generous artists donated their time and talents and supporters donated more than two dozen artworks – appraised by Jack Bacon – for our silent auction.
We owe a huge debt of gratitude to Candy Greene, Toni Harsh and Honor Jones, who were the core of the planning committee, and to Patty Melton, Kim Bacon, Richard Todd, Patty Ince, Renee Taylor, Kris Vagner and many others who made the event possible. We so appreciate Simon’s Cafe & Lounge, who brought the food; Fred & Jill Altman, who donated wine; Judge Lynne Simon’s and Mark Simon’s tables & chairs; Eagle Frame; Nevada Fine Arts; and Richard Todd Design for their help.
Volunteers from the Karma Box Project helped with the setup and worked tirelessly throughout the event to keep the venue clean, distribute drinks and make folks comfortable. There are many more to thank – most especially those who bought artworks and donated – and we’re sending out individual epistles to them.
Here’s a look at the fundraiser, which by luck of the weather gods, was scheduled for one of the few wildfire smoke-free days the Truckee Meadows had this summer:
The proceeds from Art Talks go into the Independent Journalism Fund, a non-profit and non-partisan fund set up by the RN&R in partnership with the Tides Foundation. The fund supports independent, ethical journalism and allows us to dig deeper into important local issues and provide opportunities for young journalists. Thanks again for helping the Reno News & Review to keep independent local journalism alive in Northern Nevada at a time when it’s needed more than ever.
Tax-deductible donations to the Independent Journalism Fund may be made online.
Awesome!!!
