Pigeon Head Brewery of Reno and the Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts are encouraging folks to choose their favorite Pigeon Head beer to be served at Pioneer Center during the fall 2021 season, including at the popular “Broadway Comes to Reno” series.

To participate, visit the brewery, 840 E. Fifth St.; order a Pioneer sampler (three 8-ounce pours); vote for your favorite by scanning a QR code on a table card or tent; then share on social media.

A portion of the sales of four-packs or six-packs of beer will be donated to Pioneer Center, with the purchaser entered into a drawing for a Pigeon Head and Pioneer beer party pack. Voting ends on Sept. 1.

Local Food Week celebrates local growers and their bounty

GrowingNV, a local food advocate, presents its annual Local Food Week Aug. 15-21 in Reno, Sparks and other Northern Nevada locations.

Among the events during the week: hoop house tour and construction, attracting pollinators to home gardens, an herb farm stand, farmer and bartender mixer, tomato giveaway, Reno Garlic Fest and family farm projects. Schedule/details are on the GrowingNV page.

The private Club at ArrowCreek in South Reno is undergoing a $50 million renovation, including spaces the public can rent for fall weddings, holiday parties and other events.

The 13,000-square-foot Pavilion offers surround-sound views of golf course, city and mountains. The 4,000-square-foot Vista center, set to be finished by fall 2021, incorporates a bridal lounge and moveable dance floor and can be partitioned into smaller spaces.

The private dining room accommodates smaller gatherings, with restaurant or catered menus and access to a courtyard garden.

Ono kau kau at annual Reno Aloha Festival

The 5th Annual Reno Aloha Festival runs 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Aug. 28 in Wingfield Park, 2 S. Arlington Ave. The event, a celebration of Hawaiian culture, features food, music, dance, children’s activities, and instruction in hula, ukulele and speaking Hawaiian. Details are on Facebook.

Best in the West Cook-off: 250,000 pounds of ribs

The Best in the West Nugget Rib Cook-off, one of the country’s top barbecue competitions, returns Sept. 1-6 on Victorian Square outside the Nugget Resort Casino, 1100 Nugget Ave., Sparks.

The event showcases 20-plus cookers competing for about $20,000 in prize money while also preparing an estimated 250,000 pounds of pork ribs for public sampling. The cook-off also features VIP Rib Village, beer garden, arts and crafts vendors, children’s carnival and free live music. The website has the details.
