Itโs a pathetic sight to see: a lock securely fastened around a bicycle frame and a parking meterโwith its wheels long gone.
To help counteract the all-too common occurrence of bike theft (or bike-part theft), a 21-year-old in England created a bendable bike that allows cyclists to wrap the entire thing around a post, no chains or locks necessary. Designed by Kevin Scott, the bike is rigid when being ridden, but the push of a lever makes it bendable when itโs time to secure it.
Scottโs bike was runner-up in the Business Design Centre New Designer of the Year Award, and heโs now seeking a backer to commercially develop what is currently just a prototype.
