Some ski resorts are more environmentally friendly than others. The
Ski Area Citizensโ€™ Coalition grades them each year and
issues a Ski Area Environmental Report Card for resorts across the
country.

For 2009, Squaw Valley earned an โ€œAโ€ and ranked
No. 1 nationwide, primarily for its efforts to preserve sensitive
areas, water conservation and its commitment to recycling and renewable
energy. Also receiving Aโ€™s were Sugar Bowl Ski Resort,
Alpine Meadows, Homewood and Boreal mountain resorts.

Grades for other local resorts, listed in decreasing order of
percentiles:

Bโ€™s: Mount Rose-Ski Tahoe, Kirkwood, Mammoth Mountain,
Sierra-at-Tahoe and Mt. Shasta Board & Ski Park.

Cโ€™s: Northstar-at-Tahoe, Dodge Ridge, Heavenly Mountain
Resort and Bear Valley Mountain Resort.
