Some ski resorts are more environmentally friendly than others. The
Ski Area Citizensโ Coalition grades them each year and
issues a Ski Area Environmental Report Card for resorts across the
country.
For 2009, Squaw Valley earned an โAโ and ranked
No. 1 nationwide, primarily for its efforts to preserve sensitive
areas, water conservation and its commitment to recycling and renewable
energy. Also receiving Aโs were Sugar Bowl Ski Resort,
Alpine Meadows, Homewood and Boreal mountain resorts.
Grades for other local resorts, listed in decreasing order of
percentiles:
Bโs: Mount Rose-Ski Tahoe, Kirkwood, Mammoth Mountain,
Sierra-at-Tahoe and Mt. Shasta Board & Ski Park.
Cโs: Northstar-at-Tahoe, Dodge Ridge, Heavenly Mountain
Resort and Bear Valley Mountain Resort.
