Reno News & Review

Week of June 26, 2024

From the editor’s desk

The paper edition of the July RN&R is scheduled to arrive in Reno tomorrow (Thursday, June 27), and you should see it on the stands within the next several days.

That means you only have a day or two (or maybe three or four, depending on which neighborhood or city you live in) to pick up a copy of the June RN&R at your favorite library, shop or restaurant—and that one’s a keeper. Its 14-page Summer Guide will keep you in the know about a long list of things to do, indoors and out, until the leaves start to change.

Summer is when our local performing artists, chefs, auto enthusiasts and many others get to show their stuff in the ways that are easiest to access—in gatherings in our streets and parks, often for free, and often with families in mind.

If you pick up that June print edition, you’ll have the RN&R team’s expert summer event recommendations at your fingertips, all summer long. But get it quick before it’s gone. (Just don’t try to do the crossword puzzle in that June edition. We messed it up, but you can find the correct version here.)

Of course, you can find all of our great Summer Guide info at RenoNR.com as well.

And don’t forget to vote in the final round of the Best of Northern Nevada poll. It’s open through July 21.

Brain freeze! A love letter to frozen cocktails

By Michael Moberly

June 25, 2024

In cocktail dark ages of the ’70s and ’80s, frozen drinks were just a place to throw your cheapest alcohol and brightly colored mixer. Now, bartenders use them to show off seasonal ingredients and flex their creativity.

Entertaining but empty: Jeff Nichols’ ‘The Bikeriders’ is beautiful, but lacking depth

By Bob Grimm

June 24, 2024

The Bikeriders is good movie—but it never really gets under the surface of what it’s trying to portray, that being the onset of biker gang culture in the ’60s.

A whiny brat: Andrew McCarthy’s Brat Pack documentary is ruined by his (understandable) grudge

By Bob Grimm

June 24, 2024

Much of Brats involves Andrew McCarthy calling old acting accomplices and trying to secure interviews. Judd Nelson and Molly Ringwald abstain, probably because this dude drives them crazy.
