The top-secret Ghost Army of World War II, made up of more than 1,000 American artists and other specialists, fooled Nazi commanders into thinking they were facing tens of thousands of troops that didn’t exist—at least not in the places where they appeared to be. Reporter Zoe Dixon gives readers a glimpse of the inflatable tanks and artillery, staged radio traffic and other life-saving deceptions now on exhibit at the Nevada Museum of Art.
A pilot program called Third Meal is helping low-income Washoe County families take their kids for a night out at a restaurant, Janice Hoke reports. It’s a cooperative effort between a nonprofit group and local eateries, including Great Full Gardens.
In this month’s Taste of the Town, Maude Ballinger shares some of the latest restaurant news, including Easter dining options, a new pizza joint in the former Pizzeria Lupo space, and a lot more.
Members of the public must be allowed to witness the Bureau of Land Management’s “gathers” of free-roaming mustangs, says guest-opinion writer Terri Farley. GRR, formerly known as Girls Rock Reno—the annual music summer camp at the Holland Project—is accepting applications for GRR Summer 2023, scheduled for June 19-24.The program welcomes all self-identified girls, trans, non-binary and gender expansive youth to participate.
Bob Grimm isn’t known for embracing sequels and most film franchises. Then came John Wick: Chapter 4, which our movie maven says “is that rarest of sequels: It’s a masterpiece. … It’s the best film of a fantastic four.” Keanu Reeves as Wick, Grimm writes, “delivers his best work in the best film of his career,” including The Matrix. So there!
I’ll see you in the funny papers—and watch for April print edition, hitting news stands this weekend and next week.
Take care,
