Plans for a protected cycle track along Center Street between UNR and Midtown were put on hold after downtown casinos suggested a better route would be on Virginia Street—going past their front doors. A new traffic study concludes that a bike lane on Virginia Street would result in frequent gridlock, but planners say that’s not a good reason to revive the Center Street project just yet.

A survey of local bicycle riders, meanwhile, indicates an appetite for protected bike lanes on Center Street and other local thoroughfares. The survey results won’t be officially released until later this month, but we snagged an advance copy.

Art and culture events are in bloom this spring, including exhibitions, a senior artists’ show, discounted passes for four local museums and the fierce return of Girls Rock Reno summer camp, which is accepting applications. 

Bob Grimm praises the performances of Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum in the new rom-com adventure, “The Lost City,” but says the plot is a lackluster reprise of “Romancing the Stone.”

As Northern Nevada venues recover from pandemic closures, the Reno funk band Phat Mark will be the opening act on April 14 for the internationally-known Apollo Suns, as the Canadian group’s long-postponed U.S. tour gets underway.

COVID-19 cases continue to fall, and it’s beginning to feel like the contagion is in the rear-view mirror. Maybe. But we’ll keep our eyes on those numbers and, please …
