Reno News & Review

Week of May 29, 2025

The June RN&R drops this weekend! It’s a big issue—and not the kind of “big issue” that means “a problem;” I mean our soon-to-be-distributed paper edition is a thick one. That’s because it contains 13 pages jam-packed with things you need to know to have an awesome summer in Northern Nevada.

If you’re new in town, and you’re still looking for ways to get your bearings and figure out our local entertainment and culture offerings, summer is the time, and this guide is your ticket.

If you’ve been in town (or been an RN&R reader) more than a week, you already know that the percentage of our advice that comes from algorithms, “collabs” with PR professionals, or pre-written articles from travel bureaus, is—all together now—zero!

For our Summer Guide, expert event-curation maven Kelley Lang compiled the details for the next three months with festivals, concerts and other goings-on in our region.

If you remember longtime movie guy Bob Grimm’s summer movie preview from 2024—in which he detailed a tepid season of blasé non-blockbusters—you might be concerned about this year’s summer offerings. Well, here’s your go-ahead: Bob is positively psyched about this summer’s movie lineup. Yes folks, Bob Grimm used the word “optimistic”—multiple times!

Kelley’s events guide and Bob’s movie guide are live on our website now. There’s more expert summer advice coming your way over the next few days, both online and in the paper edition, which will make its way all over the region within a few days. As always, it’s exuberant and fun, with a little dose of sibling rivalry.

Take care,

—Kris Vagner, managing editor

Cruise-ing along: The final (?) ‘Mission: Impossible’ film is perhaps the worst—but it’s still worth seeing

By Bob Grimm

May 26, 2025

It’s long; it’s a little on the somber side; and it may be a little too self-important. But by the time Cruise is dangling from a biplane, you’ll probably forgive all the nonsense and mostly enjoy the final ride.
