Say it once, say it twice, third time’s a charm!

On the heels of the successful theatrical run of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice this past fall, Broadway Comes to Reno presents the musical production based on Tim Burton’s first film named after the ghoulish “bio-exorcist.” Beetlejuice: The Musical tells the story of Lydia Deetz, an unusual teenager whose whole life changes when she meets a recently deceased couple and a demon who has a thing for stripes. The musical adaptation—with music and lyrics by Eddie Perfect and book by Scott Brown and Anthony King—follows many aspects of the 1988 film, but with notable changes in some important plot lines. Still, you should expect plenty of irreverent, morbid fun as in the original film. Performances start at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 11, and Thursday, Dec. 12; 8 p.m., Friday, Dec. 13; 2 and 8 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 14; and 1 and 7 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 15, at the Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts, 100 S. Virginia St. As of deadline, there were limited seats available in the $135 range. Call 775-434-1050, or go to www.pioneercenter.com.

Unholy night

Krampus knows if you’ve been naughty or nice. This demonic-looking creature would appear with Saint Nicholas on the night of Dec. 5 to mete out punishment to wicked children, according to Central and Eastern Alpine folkloric tradition. While Krampus probably has pre-Christian origins, he was often paired with the Christian Saint Nicholas in a sort of good-cop/bad-cop partnership. Well-behaved children got a gift from St. Nick; unruly children got a whipping with birch rods—or worse. In some traditions, incorrigible children were warned that they would be carried away to hell in Krampus’ sack or basket. We can’t promise you a trip to hell, but you can enjoy an evening of merry mischief during Krampus and Cocktails—A Wicked Yule Celebration. Warm up with a serving of Krampus Cocoa, and get your photo taken with the hairy beast himself at this holiday party, which will start at 4 p.m. and continue until closing time on Saturday, Dec. 14, at Underworld Distillery, 5301 Longley Lane, Building F, Suite 203. The event is only for adults age 21 and older. Check out underworlddistillery.com for more information. If you can’t it make to that event, there’s another chance to pose with the goat-horned man. Stop by Three Moons Trading Company for Pictures with Krampus, taking place from noon to 4 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 21, at 1515 S. Virginia St. Call 775-357-8935, or visit www.facebook.com/ThreeMoonsTrading.
