Nevada desperately needs a comprehensive and creative approach to mental health care reform, especially for those who are treatment-resistant and prefer to live on the street.

Sheila Leslie is a semi-retired human services professional who has lived in Reno for 45-plus years. A native Californian, she graduated from Sonoma State University and holds a master’s degree in Spanish language and literature from UNR. She has led numerous nonprofit agencies in Washoe County, including the Food Bank of Northern Nevada and the Children’s Cabinet; she managed the Specialty Courts at the Second Judicial District Court for many years. She served in the Nevada Legislature from 1999-2012, chairing numerous committees and serving in Democratic leadership. She has written award-winning political columns in area newspapers since 2012, and is an activist on many issues.
