Itโ€™s hard to read The Tahoe Rim Trail while lying on my bed in Sparks. With almost every page, I feel like leaping up and checking my backpack to see which supplies I need to restock. Hauserman calls this the complete guide for hikers, mountain bikers and equestrians, and he comes pretty close. I through-hiked the trail about this time last year, and I wish Iโ€™d had the book on my trip. Sections of the guide include animals and plants (I donโ€™t know how many times I wondered what kind of flower I was looking at), a userโ€™s guide and trail descriptions. Iโ€™ve only got one complaint about this book, the Rim Trail is one of the most beautiful places on Earth, couldnโ€™t the photos have been in color? The flat black-and-white images donโ€™t convey the most important reason for hiking the trail. Thereโ€™s a lot going on in this book about the Lake and the region, itโ€™s a keeperโ€”even for non-hikers.
