‘SIAMSA—A Celtic Christmas’ returns to the Grand Sierra Resort
Shamrock Productions’ signature holiday musical, SIAMSA—A Celtic Christmas, is returning to the Grand Sierra Resort and Casino’s acclaimed Grand Theatre at 7 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 4.
This year’s production of SIAMSA—meaning “to celebrate” in Gaelic—features international Irish dance champions; five-time dance world champion Aidan Hurff; and a dazzling ensemble of outstanding dancers, vocalists, actors and musicians. The orphans’ whimsical journey immerses the audience into a world of Celtic traditions and customs from Galicia, Spain, throughout Ireland, Scotland and beyond, creating a magical evening of holiday fun for the entire family.
Tickets for SIAMSA—A Celtic Christmas for children 12 and under and seniors 65 and older start at $35, plus additional taxes and fees; and $50 for adults, plus additional taxes and fees. Doors open at 6 p.m. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit grandsierraresort.com or call 1-800-648-3568. Shamrock Productions is a nonprofit organization. (Sponsored content)

Ants in your plants?

You finally put those spring flower bulbs in the ground, shut off and drained the outdoor water faucets, and stowed the garden hoses, tools and other equipment in the shed and garage. But did you really think you were done for the year? Like many gardeners, you’ve likely amassed a collection of indoor plants, and they’ll still need your attention. Washoe County master gardeners will provide information on how to keep your indoor plants happy and healthy through a long winter. Abigail Jarrett will discuss common insect pests of houseplants and how to control them; Valerie Ojeman will share tips and techniques to help your holiday plants thrive; and Sara Marcus will give advice on when and how to repot common houseplants. The free garden talks start at 1:30 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 23, in the Paiute Room at Spanish Springs Library, 7100A Pyramid Highway, Sparks. Visit events.washoecountylibrary.us.
Keep shining

It’s the season of light—that time of year when the shorter days and longer nights prompt our primal urge to stave off the darkness and bitter cold with the glow and warmth of fire. While the ancients relied on fire to light up the long winter nights, modern people use slightly less combustible forms of illumination—strings of holiday lights, LED candles and inflatable lawn ornaments. But if you need something more to brighten up your holiday, there’s always lasers. Laser light shows return to Fleischmann Planetarium with programs featuring music by pop and rock icons ABBA, The Beatles, Billie Eilish, Daft Punk, Depeche Mode, Michael Jackson, Pink Floyd, Queen, Taylor Swift and U2. There will also be themed programs such as “Holiday Magic,” “Galactic Celebration,” “Movie Magic,” and “Stranger Things.” Laser shows will be offered on weekends and select weekdays from Friday, Nov. 28, through Sunday, Dec. 28, at Fleischmann Planetarium, 1664 N. Virginia St. on the north end of the University of Nevada, Reno campus. Tickets are $10-$20. For showtimes and tickets, go to www.unr.edu/planetarium.
