This month, we bid farewell to longtime columnist Sheila Leslie. She’s departing Reno with fond memories of its people and geography, but not-so-fond memories of the city’s development choices.

Calling all slasher-flick fans: After 16 years in the making, Eli Roth’s full-length version of one of the fake trailers from Grindhouse has finally hit the screens. Bob Grimm reports that Thanksgiving—while it doesn’t reinvent any wheels or redefine the genre—brings “a lot of gory fun for those of us who like our holiday-themed splatter-fests.”
The Saturday Night Live comedy trio Please Don’t Destroy has a full-length movie that’s now streaming, Please Don’t Destroy: The Treasure of Foggy Mountain, starring Martin Herlihy, John Higgins and Ben Marshall as retail employees who embark a wilderness trek—and Conan O’Brien, who slays as Ben’s angry dad. Bob says the plot meanders more than it needs to, but the film successfully hits the funny bone.
Road trip, anyone? When you drive down U.S. Highway 395, some marvels, like the snow-capped peaks and rushing creeks, are easy to spot. Others, like ghost towns and tranquil lakes, are more hidden. Author and photographer’s Stephen H. Provost’s guidebook, Sierra Highway: U.S. 395 and El Camino Sierra in California and Nevada, can help you find them all.
