Slurping your brains like boba: Zombie Crawl returns
The 13th Annual Reno Zombie Crawl comes back to life in downtown beginning 8 p.m. Oct. 23. The 2021 crawl features 31, 100-plus beer and drink specials and thousands of (costumed) undead partying. Cups: $10 individual, $40 for a 5-cup pack, $75 skip-the-line fast pass for two. Cups (act as tickets)/details.
Reno Buddhist Center hosting Oktoberfest Feast
From 4 to 6 p.m. Oct. 23, Moon Rabbit Café in Reno Buddhist Center, 820 Plumas St (café entrance at 225 ¾ W. Taylor St.), is hosting its Oktoberfest Feast featuring. chicken or celery root jägerschnitzel, kugel, red cabbage slaw and gingerbread cookies. The beer truck from Great Basin Brewing Co. will offer pints.

Susanville powwow returns
Ancient songs, drums, dancers – and yes, the traditional frybread and Indian tacos – will return to the Lassen County Oct. 22-24 with the 12th Annual Susanville Indian Rancheria Powwow. The event, initially scheduled for the fairgrounds, will be held in the Lassen County Community College Gym, 478-200 Highway 139 in Susanville, Calif. It’s free and the public is invited.
The event is sponsored by members of the Pit River, Maidu, Paiute and Washoe tribes. It celebrates and honors elders, veterans and the ancestors of indigenous peoples while bringing cultural awareness to the community.
The event will feature dance competitions for Native American men, women and young people from California, Nevada and around the West. Male dance categories include Traditional, Fancy, and Grass; female categories include Traditional, Shawl and Jingle. Vendors will be selling a wide variety of Native crafts, jewelry and art. Food vendors’ offerings include the ever-popular frybread. The Native American host drum will be Buffalo Hill, whose singers are mostly from the Yakama Nation and surrounding areas.
The powwow will be presenting a Red Dress Special Dance to honor and bring awareness to missing and murdered indigenous women and girls. Details of the powwow may be found online.
Ghosting at Matador bar to fight domestic violence
Beginning 8 p.m. Oct. 27, Reno Resilient, a group that presents classes to help Reno business leaders learn and prosper, is presenting a Halloween party at Matador Lounge, 445 California Ave., to raise awareness of October’s Domestic Violence Month.
The event features craft cocktails, house sangria and a costume contest, with first place winning a Matador bar tab. Cover fee is $5, with proceeds going to the Nevada Coalition to End Domestic Violence. For tickets/details, visit here.
Halloween costume dance and bites for singles
From 7 to 11 p.m. Oct. 30, Heartscape, a group that organizes events for singles, is presenting a Halloween costume dance with appetizers, late-night snacks and beverages at MidSparks Events Center, 1745 Sullivan Lane, Sparks. Cost: $50. Tickets/details.
Washoe Public House presents tequila pairing dinner
From 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Nov. 3, Washoe Public House, 275 Hill St., is presenting a dinner pairing courses created by chef Brett Moseley with pours of Cantera Negra tequila. Cost: $80. Tickets/details.
