Nevada in the West magazine has announced it is folding.

The announcement came in its final edition, though it had been hinted at in a previous edition. It began publication in 2010.

โ€œFrom the beginning we have tried to present a different type of Nevada history publication,โ€ editor Eric Moody wrote in his last editorโ€™s note. โ€œWe hope your expectations were met and that you were at least occasionally surprised by what you found in our pages.โ€

The publishing company will continue to exist and will release books on Nevada history, starting with a history of the Reno Chamber of Commerce by Joyce Cox.

The final edition of the magazine contains articles on extradition of mobsters from Nevada in the early days of legal gambling, a mine superintendentโ€™s wife in 1867 Austin, the centennial of the still-standing Mary Lee Nichols school building on Pyramid Way in Sparks, a profile of Nevada journalist Earl Leaf, two business storiesโ€”on Nevada company towns and Reno Vulcanizing Worksโ€”and reviews of five new books.

The final issue is available at Sundance Books in Reno and Book Gallery in Sparks.
