George Clooney plays a lonely man who makes custom guns out of spare parts for shady enterprises, working a job while stationed in Italy. His mysterious boss (Johan Leysen) sends him there after an attempt on his life in Sweden, and he is to meet a woman named Mathilde (Thekla Reuten) for weapon specs. While hanging around the city, he falls for a whore (Violante Placido) and starts thinking in terms of settling down. Anton Corbijn’s film is quiet, meditative, and beautifully shot. This is Clooney in reserved mode, taking a departure from his comedic and super confident roles. It’s another interesting choice from an actor who knows a good role when he sees it. It’s not an eye-popping action thriller, and it has a very slow pace, so don’t go if you are looking for high speed thrills. This one most certainly takes its time.
