A former press aide to U.S. Sen. Harry Reid of Nevada is under consideration to become Barack Obamaโ€™s senior White House communications director.

In addition to serving Reid, Stephanie Cutter also was a longtime advisor to Sen. Edward Kennedy and helped orchestrate Kennedyโ€™s well-timed endorsement of Obama during the primary/caucus season.

Cutter previously served in the White House as President Clintonโ€™s deputy communications director and was Sen. John Kerryโ€™s spokesperson in the 2004 presidential campaign. The intraparty recriminations after Kerryโ€™s defeat were described by the New York Times as Cutterโ€™s principal drawback in the competition for the White House post.
