Get ready for Korn as they perform at the Reno Events Center this weekend. Singer Jonathan Davis, bassist Fieldy, drummer David Silveria and guitarists James “Munky” Shaffer and Brian “Head” Welch” formed in the band in Bakersfield, Calif., in 1993. Their signature sound of speed metal riffs, hip-hop stylings and bass-heavy rhythms struck a chord with music fans during the mid-1990s. Singles off Korn’s debut album and 1996’s Life Is Peachy received airplay on alternative music stations, but the band didn’t reach crossover success until its 1998 album Follow the Leader, which featured the hit singles “Got the Life” and “ Freak on a Leash.” The band continued on the path to commercial success with their Family Values Tour in 1998. They even starred in and debuted their single “Falling Away From Me” on an episode of South Park. With more bands copying Korn’s sound, the band decided to diversify a bit on their 1999 release Issues, 2002’s Untouchables and 2003’s Take A Look in the Mirror, which was their last album as a quintet. Guitarist Welch left the band last year due to “spiritual reasons,” but the remainder of Korn carried on to record its latest album, See You on the Other Side. Korn and opening acts Mudvayne and 10 Years perform 7:30 p.m. Feb. 25 at the Reno Events Center, 400 N. Center St. Tickets are $41.50. Call 335-8840 or 787-8497.
