Donโt hate them because theyโre corporate. In fact, the truth is that they only look corporate (nifty suits, check; diagonal bangs, check; big-budget, major-label debut, check). In actuality, the Click Five are academicโthey honed their chops at Bostonโs Berklee School of Music, where they apparently double-majored in Applied Hooksmanship and Classic Chord Progressions, with a practicum in the Art of the โ80s Cover. The result is an album that you can sneer at all you like if youโre one of those tiresome indie-rock people but that youโll enjoy whether youโre willing to admit it or not. Thereโs simply no arguing with the effortless power-pop grace of โTime Machineโ and โAngel to You (Devil to Me).โ Resistance is futile.
