Billy Idol rocked the Hilton showroom July 15, playing songs from all his eras. Idol had the ladies in a lather when he took his shirt off. He looked pretty good for a man of 49, sporting six-pack abs and his patented sneer. A most surreal moment occurred when Idol picked up an acoustic guitar and played “If I Were a Carpenter,” then segued into “Plastic Jesus.” The band played an impressively bombastic cover of The Who’s “Who are You.” When complimented on the song backstage, Steve Stevens (guitarist) said “If you’re going to play a Who cover; you better do it good.” The night finished up with Idol’s version of the classic “Mony Mony,” complete with the obscene, oedipal-complex audience shout-out line.
