Star-studded band Velvet Revolver played the Reno Events Center April 17. Frontman Scott Weiland, sporting an SS cap and wailing on a megaphone, crushed the audience with songs from VR’s album Contraband and surprised the crowd with versions of Stone Temple Pilots’ “Sex Type Thing” and Guns N’ Roses’ “Used to Love Her.”

Lead guitarist Slash, wearing his trademark top hat, started the encore playing Pink Floyd’s “Wish You Were Here.” Velvet Revolver finished up the night with a second encore, playing GNR’s “Mr. Brownstone,” an aptly picked song, given some of the group’s past struggles with substance abuse.
