These brothers from way-up-state New York were hailed as โ€œEmerging Artists of the Yearโ€ in 2003; this release serves notice that the band has indeed emerged. They use sibling harmoniesโ€”reminiscent of the Louvins and the Everlysโ€”to create a โ€œrootsโ€ niche all their own. The CD showcases a range of songs, including seven originals, that stretch from orthodox bluegrass through ragtime, honky-tonk and a cover of the Bandโ€™s โ€œOphelia,โ€ to vintage country and back again. While drawing deeply from the well of tradition, their music is vibrant, rolling, alternately spooky and joyous; a definitely living and meaningful contribution to that grab bag of musical expressions called Americana.
