Michael Caine is very good in this film set in Saigon at the beginning of the Vietnam War. Caine plays an opium-smoking English journalist who has taken a young lover. When an innocent-looking American (Brendan Fraser) shows up, he tries to take his lover away. More a love story than a political story. All those involved do pretty good jobs, especially Caine, who hasn’t been this good in a long time.
