What are some reasons to spend your evening looking at the stars? Your eyes can take a break from the mesmerizing rays of the television screen. Maybe you’ll spot flying saucers in the starry expanse of space. Maybe the next time a comet is on a collision course with earth, you can impress your friends by telling them its exact spatial coordinates. And the best reason to stare into space? It’s free. At Rancho San Rafael Park, 1502 Washington Street, you can stargaze from 9 to 11 p.m. August 9 with the Astronomical Society of Nevada. There will be a brief slideshow and plenty of telescopes to participate in the gazing. Meet at the Pagoda Picnic area and bring a flashlight and warm clothes, in case the night is cool.
