Eleven of Bobby Bare Jr.โ€™s friends, including most of My Morning Jacket and a handful of other Southeastern musicians, recorded this album of 11 songs in 11 hours on a spring day in Nashville. The result is quirky, head-bobbing, lovestruck, honest, raucous Southern rock. But itโ€™s not without the twang-tinged hard edge expected from an album released on the tattoos-and-moonshine-blessed Bloodshot Records label. Bare, with his bittersweet, cracking voice, sings thoughtful, witty lyrics, especially on songs like โ€œDemon Valleyโ€ and โ€œThe Heart Bionic.โ€ Check out his stripped-down cover of the Pixieโ€™s tune โ€œWhere is My Mind.โ€ The Longest Meow is set for release Sept. 26.
