โ€œPainting for me has become the ultimate synthesis, the mortar which binds all of the forms together,โ€ writes Toby Lurie in his artistโ€™s statement. Although he may lean toward visual arts, Lurie believes that there is no boundary between music, language and painting; he melds the three into what he calls โ€œSynesthesia.โ€ He explains that each art form โ€œhas always influenced and existed withinโ€ others. His huge, colorful paintings, filled with text and renderings of music notes, capture the spirit of joyful, celebratory musical arrangement. Lurie will perform his poetry at 7 p.m. Oct. 3 at Esoteric Coffeehouse and Gallery, 135 N. Sierra St., then return at 6 p.m. Oct. 4 for a performance that incorporates his symphony work, visual art and poetry. Synesthesia will be on display through Oct. 31; those interested in attending a three-hour workshop with Lurie at 10 a.m. Oct. 4 may call 322-8999.
