“Painting for me has become the ultimate synthesis, the mortar which binds all of the forms together,” writes Toby Lurie in his artist’s statement. Although he may lean toward visual arts, Lurie believes that there is no boundary between music, language and painting; he melds the three into what he calls “Synesthesia.” He explains that each art form “has always influenced and existed within” others. His huge, colorful paintings, filled with text and renderings of music notes, capture the spirit of joyful, celebratory musical arrangement. Lurie will perform his poetry at 7 p.m. Oct. 3 at Esoteric Coffeehouse and Gallery, 135 N. Sierra St., then return at 6 p.m. Oct. 4 for a performance that incorporates his symphony work, visual art and poetry.
