The Poor Manโ€™s Jazz Band is back in action, playing original pieces and covering the likes of Miles Davis, Thelonius Monk and John Coltrane. The band will conduct a three-venue recording session this weekend, beginning at the Zephyr Lounge Thursday night at 9 p.m., moving on to Reno Jazz Club Saturday night at 9 p.m. and ending at Esoteric Coffeehouse Sunday afternoon from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. (The Esoteric show will be in conjunction with an opening reception celebrating the artwork of Bruce Lindsay, also Poor Manโ€™s lead vocalist.) โ€ฆ Jen Scaffidi has has stepped down as host of the Zephyr Loungeโ€™s Artistsโ€™ Playroom after hosting it for the past year. The Playroom will now have several hosts, including Nick Ramirez, Rory Dowd and Eric Stangeland, who will emcee the night on a rotational basis.
