While this frantic picture is sometimes technically impressive, stale human characters and annoying characterizations of Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck make this one a major waste of time and energy. The Looney Tunes characters exist, Roger Rabbit-style, alongside the likes of Brendan Fraser, Jenna Elfman and Steve Martin, and they don’t share an enjoyable coexistence. Director Joe Dante’s film has no story worth remembering and few moments that truly register. When Bugs and company run through paintings at an art museum, it qualifies as the film’s most inventive moment. Yet, like the majority of the movie, the moment is rushed and lacking impact. It’s amazing that writers and directors can’t find creative venues for Looney Tunes nowadays. If you need a Bugs and Daffy fix, get a copy of the new shorts compilation just released to DVD. Avoid the movie.
