Love a fair

Expect โ€œa veritable smorgasbordโ€ of experiences at the official State Fair of Nevada, which returns to Reno after a 16-year hiatus. The fair will showcase the stateโ€™s rich heritage and agricultural roots with events such as the Nevada Junior Livestock Show; the University of Nevada, Reno Extensionโ€™s 4-H Expo; the Nevada Governorโ€™s Livestock Sale of Champions; Next Generation Youth Bull Riding; and a farmers’ market emphasizing Nevada-grown products. Other highlights include an art show, contests, carnival rides, entertainment and the opening night concert featuring Americana artist Caleb Montgomery. Fair hours are 4 to 11 p.m., Thursday-Saturday, June 11-13, at the Nevada State Fairgrounds (Reno-Sparks Livestock Events Center), 1350 N. Wells Ave. General admission tickets are $12 for adults and $7 for kids age 12 and younger. Tickets for Opening Day and the Caleb Montgomery concert on June 11 are $12-$15. Concurrently, the Nevada State Fair (which is independently organized and not a state-sponsored event) will take place in Carson City. This community fair features carnival rides and games, the Childrenโ€™s Entrepreneur Market, live music and other entertainment, as well as plenty of carnival fare. Fair hours are 1 to 10 p.m., Thursday, June 11; and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Friday, June 12, through Sunday, June 14, at Mills Park, 1111 E. William St., Carson City. Admission is free. Reno Bike Project, The Holland Project and Craft Wine and Beer will hold their eighth annual summer kickoff and beer release bash Tri-Lab. The collaborative street party features games and raffles, food and dessert trucks, a local business market, DJs from KWNK Community Radio, and performances by local bands Tiger Lord and tightwire. The free, all-ages event takes place from 4 to 9 p.m., Thursday, June 11, at Craft Wine and Beer, 22 Martin St. Live music starts at 7:30 p.m. Attendees 21 and older can pick up a six pack of this yearโ€™s limited edition beer release, a Japanese-style rice lager made by Bristlecone Brewery featuring artwork by Kai Morikawa on the cans. Reno Pro Soccer invites local soccer fans to gather at Reno Public Market for a series of FIFA World Cup 2026 watch parties, which will include raffles, prizes, drink specials and opportunities to learn more about the soccer club and its plans for the region. The annual event transforms the Cheney block of Midtown into a neighborhood gathering with DJs performances, a farmers’ market, vendors, family-friendly activities, carnival games and food and drink offerings from participating businesses. Northern Nevada Throwing Company brings a wee bit oโ€™ Scotland to the Comstock at the fifth annual Great Basin Scottish Highland Games. Men and women will compete in games of skill and strength such as the stone throw, hammer throw, weight for distance, weight over bar, sheaf toss and caber toss. The two-day celebration of Scottish culture features a beard contest, a vendor area, food trucks, traditional dancing and music, and plenty of kilts and tartans on display. National Pollinator Week takes place June 22-28, but the Nevada State Museum will get a jump-start on festivities with its second annual Pollinator Palooza. The event starts at the Nevada State Museum at 9 a.m., Saturday, June 13, with pollinator-themed arts and crafts activities and a stroller decorating contest. During the Pollinator Parade, participants dressed as bees, butterflies or other pollinators will walk from the museum’s Loftin Park to McFadden Plaza, heading back to the museum to take part in the Waggle Dance. Activities continue at noon inside the museum with six science stations where kids can collect stamps to put on their Pollinator Passport and earn a special prize. Free outdoor activities take place outside the Nevada State Museum, 600 N. Carson St., Carson City. The Rancho Playroom (formerly the Discovery Room) at Rancho San Rafael Regional Park will kick off its summer series of themed art and crafts activities, guest speakers and storytelling next week. During โ€œPollinator Week,โ€ young participants can make bee crafts, meet a beekeeper with her mobile hive, and go on a pollinator scavenger hunt in the Pollinator Garden.
