Weโre all Devo

Ground-breaking musical misfits Devo bring their โMutate Don’t Stagnateโ tour and message of โde-evolutionโ to the masses. Formed in 1973 in Akron, Ohio, in the wake of the Kent State shootings (and foreshadowing the punk rock movement to come), Devo combined a healthy distrust of authority and distaste for conformity with a musical and visual identity that transcended their art punk origins. While the group found mainstream success in the early 1980s with their hit โWhip It,โ Devo maintained their anti-corporate stance despite regular airplay on MTV. More than 50 years later, the band continues to inspire generations of music fans with their mix of quirky synthpop, frenetic guitar riffs, social satire and energetic performance art. Devo hits the Grand Theatre stage at 8 p.m., Saturday, April 4, at the Grand Sierra Resort, 2500 E. Second St. Tickets are $74.20 and up. Go to www.grandsierraresort.com.ย

What will happen when two shadow-cast worlds collide at the next showing of theย Rocky Horror Picture Show? Find out this weekend when Reno cast Red Lip Rebellion and Sacramento cast Amberโs Sweets join forces for a night of madcap improvisation. Less than 24 hours before the curtain rises, each performer will draw names from a hat. The two casts will combine into one ensemble, performing RHPS roles they may have never played before. Who knows what sort of silliness could ensue? An actor used to shadow-playing Riff Raff could end up playing the part of Janet Weiss, Dr. Scott or Rocky. The audience should still expect all the usual callbacks and props of a typical RHPS screening, and those who dress up in clown or jester-themed costumes will be entered into a costume contest with prizes. Get ready to shiver with antici … pationย as the show gets underway at 8 p.m., Saturday, April 4, at Cargo Concert Hall, 255 N. Virginia St. Tickets are $21.54 for general admission and $62.74 for VIP admission, which includes early entry at 6:30 p.m., photos with the cast and a prop bag.
