Watch a curated selection of documentary films that celebrate adventure, activism, social justice, the environment and indomitable spirit. The Nevada Museum of Art, in partnership with Sierra Forever, brings Mountainfilm on Tour to Reno. The tour features independent documentary films from around the world that were shown at the 47th annual Mountainfilm festival in Telluride, Colo., earlier this year. Embrace the holiday blues starting with Noxturna, a gothic listening lounge night, featuring moody tunes spun by DJ DangerGirl and tarot readings by Miss Halloween Tarot starting at 7 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 11. Get your photo taken with everybodyโs favorite holiday demonic figure and indulge in a little devilish fun at Krampus and Cocktails: A Wicked Yule Celebration. The party gets going at 4 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 13.

Bundles of joy

Many Mexican, Mexican-American and Central-American families come together during Christmastime to make a traditional food with Mesoamerican roots dating back to prehistoric times. At these gatherings, calledย tamaladas, family members spend all day preparing, assembling and cooking tamales, which will be consumed during the religious festival known as Las Posadas (Dec. 16-24) and throughout the Christmas season. Feast on a variety of these savory treats typically wrapped in corn husks at the second annual Tamale Festival. The community event celebrates Hispanic culture with artisan booths, live music, dancing, kidsโ activities and more than a dozen tamale sellers who will be competing for the Best Tamale and Peopleโs Choice awards. Claus for celebration

Join thousands of jolly Santas and other creatively costumed merrymakers at the annual Santa Crawl in downtown Reno. Youโll quickly get in the holiday spirit with your commemorative crawl cup in hand, which will get you access to beer and drink specials, contests, free giveaways and no cover charge at more than 40 participating locations in the downtown corridor and Reno Brewery District. Fill up; drink up; then move on to as many locations as you can handle. The Santa Crawl gets underway at 8 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 13. The crawlโs starting location is in Circus Circus Reno, 500 N. Sierra St., in the ballroom near the casinoโs sportsbook. Get your pre-crawl photo taken by a professional photographer from 5 to 9 p.m. at the photo booth inside the Circus Circus, or gather with other holiday revelers at 10 p.m. for the mass photo under the Reno Arch, which returns this year after several seasons on hiatus. Elevated mood

Letโs get the winter party started with the return of Tahoe Live. The annual electronic music festival features three nights of high-energy sets by headliners Zeds Dead, Alison Wonderland, DJ Diesel (Shaquille OโNeal), LSZEE, Porter Robinson, San Holo, Jessica Audiffred, Peekaboo and others. The festival kicks off on Friday, Dec. 12, and runs through Sunday, Dec. 14, at The Village at Palisades Tahoe, 1750 Village East Road, Olympic Valley. Soak up the seasonal vibes along with a hearty dose of art, history and culture at several area museums this weekend. Sparks Heritage Museum will hold its fifth annual Holiday Craft Fair, featuring handmade gifts and goodies by local artists and crafters, from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 12; 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 13, at the museum, 814 Victorian Ave., Sparks.
