Paws for thought

Even in the best of economic times, taking the family pet in for routine checkups at the veterinarian clinic can be a bit expensive. But when youโre trying to make ends meet, an unplanned trip to the vet can put a strain on your finances. Feeding Pets of the Homeless aims to make pet care available to area families experiencing homelessness or financial hardship by offering a free pet-wellness clinic with support from Galena Veterinary Hospital, Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada, Nevada Humane Society, Washoe County Housing and Homeless Services and Northern Nevada Public Health. Services include basic veterinary examinations, vaccinations, microchipping, spay/neuter vouchers and pet food and supplies. Not only will pets get vaccinations, but their humans can get flu shots, too. The clinic will take place from 8 a.m. to noon, Saturday, May 17, at the parking lot of St. Vincentโs Dining Room, 325 Valley Road. Pets will be seen on a first-come, first-served basis.
