We usually just pick one Eco-Event per week, but there’s a lot of environmental stuff going on this week. Could it be Earth Day soon? Here’s a list of a handful of them:
• The Alternative Transportation Club holds its meeting April 17 at 5:30 p.m. at the Northwest Reno Library, 2325 Robb Drive. Chuck Swackhammer will be giving a talk called “Electric Vehicles and Batteries: Present and Future.” For more information, call 826-4514, or visit Electricnevada.org.
• The Wild and Scenic Environmental Film Festival is coming to the Joe Crowley Student Union Theater at UNR on April 18. Featuring award-winning adventure and environmental films that span the globe, the film fest is presented by Patagonia and benefits Snowlands and the UNR Environmental Action Team. • Waste Management is holding its annual Free Dump Week from April 19-27. Residents can take their trash for free disposal to Lockwood Landfill, (I-80 East to Mustang Exit). No vouchers are needed. For more information, visit the Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful website at www.ktmb.org.
• Robin Powell, the Audubon director of Bird Conservation for Nevada, is giving a talk April 22 at 7 p.m. called “The Effects of Urban Weeds on Avian Populations.” This is the Lahontan Audubon Society’s monthly meeting. • If you think Reno should get in on the move to ban or reduce plastic bags in grocery stores (or have the opposite opinion), a plastic bag ban update is part of the April 23 City Council meeting at City Hall on 1 E.
