This is a chilling remake of a hugely popular Japanese horror film, and Hollywood doesn’t screw it up. Naomi Watts (Mulholland Drive) is excellent as a newspaper reporter investigating the mysterious deaths of her niece and friends, who all died exactly one week after watching creepy videotape. Good mystery with a decent payoff, this currently stands as one of the year’s scariest films. Watts proves that her great work in Mulholland Drive was no fluke.
