You don’t hear about it much, but it does happen. Though most women can begin getting yearly mammograms at the age of 40, some women suffer from breast cancer much earlier in life. That’s one of the reasons the Boarding for Breast Cancer Foundation was created in 1994; a female snowboarder was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 26 and died before her 30th birthday. Now, the foundation raises funds to educate young women about breast health through events like the Snowboard + Music Festival, which starts at 8:30 a.m. April 14 at Sierra-at-Tahoe. Bands include Crazy Town , New Found Glory, Sense Field (pictured) and Dan “The Automator” from The Gorillaz. Famous snowboarders will show their stuff in exhibitions while you peruse fun, educational displays. Concert/lift tickets are $50, or just see the concert for $28.
